Inspired by the scientific boom of the 1950s, the Rolex Milgauss, released in 1956, was built to honor engineers and scientists with its pioneering anti-magnetic technology. The CERN-tested Milgauss can withstand magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss and has a design that combines distinctive aesthetics with bold, functional features.
The Rolex 116400 Blue Milgauss GV DLC-PVD is crafted from Rolexs ultra-durable 904L Oystersteel, designed to resist moisture, UV, and scratches. The steel is coated in Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) using state-of-the-art Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) to create an even superhard black finish.
The 40mm case is covered in Milgauss characteristic green synthetic sapphire, which creates a green-tinged halo around the blue metallic dial. Each of the hour indices on the dial and the hour and minute hands are coated in Chromalight for maximum legibility even in the dark. The Milgauss iconic lighting-shaped sweeping second hand is colored bright orange to contrast with the deep Z-blue dial color (a shade exclusive to Rolex.)
The biggest innovation of the Rolex Milgauss 116400 is the anti-magnetic interference shield fitted inside the case. The shield consists of two parts and is crafted from ferromagnetic alloys surrounding and protecting the movement. Another contributor to Milgauss exceptional anti-magnetic properties is the shock-absorbing parachrom hairspring, which offers ten times the precision of standard watch hairsprings during impacts. The self-winding mechanical movement is powered by an in-house caliber 3135 and features 31 jewels to minimize internal friction for reliable timekeeping.
